Unwanted facial hair growth is a common aesthetic problem. Incorporating facial hair removal services at your clinic can be a huge opportunity as it targets a wide client range, the treatment time is short, and the margins are higher in comparison to larger treatment areas.
However, facial hair removal can be trickier to perform successfully. In this blog we discuss all you need to know to successfully add facial hair removal treatment to your clinic.
Targeted Areas
It’s a common belief that fine hair is confined to the upper lip, chin and sideburns, however there are several additional areas where this treatment can be extremely effective and are in high demand. These include the beard, back of the neck and scalp. By letting your clients know these areas are available too and arranging combination packages in advance you can help to maximise the results and increase patient satisfaction.
Get your parameters right
Facial hair is very different from hair in other areas as it is usually finer and more superficial. Adjusting your treatment parameters is key for achieving the most successful results.
Aim to keep pulse duration at a minimum as this will lead to a more superficial building of heat, ideal for facial hair removal.
Diode Laser & Intense Pulse Light (IPL)
Diode and IPL are often viewed as competing technologies when it comes to hair removal. However, one of the ways to maximise your hair removal results is to combine the use of both technologies. By using Diode Laser during the first 4-5 treatment sessions, you can damage the coarse thick hairs before switching to IPL in later sessions to complete maximum clearance.
Due to the broad-band light and shorter pulse duration, IPL will have higher energy absorption in smaller, finer hairs – such as the ones that tend to return on facial hairs.
Preparation
Let your clients know that there’s no need to shave in advance. Gently trim the hair with scissors when they arrive for treatments.
Treatment Intervals
Hair growth cycle is different for each body area. Laser and IPL treatments will only work on hair follicles during the Anagen stage, so it is crucial to time the treatment intervals according to the area you are treating.
For example, only 20% of the hair on legs are in Anagen stage, which will last for around 16 weeks. On the beard/chin, 70% of hair is in the Anagen stage, and this will last for around 1 year, which means the treating facial hair should take fewer treatment sessions.
